What this site is
The Discovery Desk is an independent editorial project that looks into consumer products and solutions that are getting attention online — home energy devices, insurance comparison services, crypto exchanges, travel booking platforms, health and wellness programs, and self-improvement tools — before telling readers what to think about them. Each investigation is written by our own editorial team, not by the companies whose products or services we discuss.
How we investigate
Every investigation on this site follows the same two-part structure:
- An informational hub page that explains the general topic, category, or pattern we're looking into — how a pricing model works, why a bill or a routine stops producing the results it used to, what to actually check before making a decision. These pages never carry an affiliate or commission link.
- A separate "What We Found" review page, one click deeper, where we describe a specific product or service getting attention in that space, state plainly what it actually is (including where a vendor's own marketing oversells it), and disclose our affiliate relationship if one exists.
We don't invent statistics, ratings, or review counts. Where a page cites a number that isn't independently verifiable — a vendor's own marketing claim, for example — we say so explicitly rather than repeat it as fact. Where we make a factual claim about an outside subject (electricity pricing, insurance rating factors, metabolic research, and so on), we link to a primary, authoritative source so you can check it yourself rather than take our word for it.
Affiliate disclosure
Some of the "What We Found" review pages linked from our investigations contain affiliate links. If you make a purchase, request a quote, or sign up through one of those links, we may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you. This is disclosed again, specifically, on every page where it applies.
That relationship never determines what we write. We do not accept payment in exchange for a favorable review, and we describe a product's real limitations even when we have a commercial relationship with it.
What we're not
We're not a licensed insurance agency, a registered investment adviser, or a medical provider. Nothing on this site is personalized insurance, financial, investment, legal, or medical advice. Where a topic touches any of those areas, our pages say so directly and encourage you to confirm details with a qualified, licensed professional before acting on anything you read here.
